My journey for hardwickii started in 2012-2014 while I was looking for a source to import from. The import fees of $1000-$1500 on top of $3500-$5000 per animals was obviously too steep for a hobbyist like myself. It's funny now that I look back on my taxes and see I spent well over $10,000 during some seasons just for the best racks, supplies, and genetics. Today I got my first pair, five years later. We look at the market today and see a huge discrepancy in pricing. Breeders are still paying $400-$1000 each for animals that are all the wild type variation, that's a huge difference for geckos that all look the same. Not to mention the extreme variation in care sheets. The American care is typical leopard gecko with extra moist hides, while the Soviet care is drastically cooler and close to Chinese Cave Geckos. For now I will stick to the American variation and when I have babies I may try some on the Soviet variation. These are still extremely rare in the American exotics market so hopefully more people are successful breeding them.
